802.11N Draft Equipment
Jul 16th, 2007 by Nick
So I have been running a new D-Link DIR-655, it’s 802.11N Draft 2 compliant. It replaced a WRT54G running Tomato firmware. While the 802.11N speeds are noticeably better I must say that the range is what I notice most. On 802.11G I would sometimes loose my connection when I took my laptop into the Kitchen(it’s on the opposite side of my house from my router). With 802.11N not only do I not loose connectivity but I have like 3-5 bars.
There are people out there that say 802.11N Draft equipment isn’t worth it as you may have to buy new hardware once the standards is finalized. There is some truth there, however, I didn’t buy the equipment to upgrade once the draft is finalized, just doesn’t matter to me. If I was using it in a business application I would probably wait but for home use it’s fine and I feel the range/speed benefits are worth it.
